Gear Comparison

The core of WoW Gear Sim is comparing gear items. After pasting your SimC export, the app shows all your gear slots with equipped and bag items. You select which items to include, and the app simulates every combination to find the best one.

Each gear slot is displayed as a card showing:

  • Equipped item — highlighted and pre-selected, marked with [equipped]
  • Bag items — available for selection, listed below the equipped item
  • Unowned items — items you’ve added via search, marked with [unowned]
  • Click an item’s checkbox to include/exclude it from the comparison
  • The equipped item starts selected by default
  • If you deselect all items in a slot, the slot is “locked” to the equipped item

If a slot has 2+ bag items, a “select all” link appears to quickly include everything — useful for trinket and ring sweeps.

The total number of simulated combinations is the cartesian product of selected items across all slots. For example:

SlotSelected ItemsContributes
Trinket 13 itemsx3
Trinket 22 itemsx2
Ring 12 itemsx2
All other slots1 item each (locked)x1

Total combinations: 3 x 2 x 2 = 12

The combination counter at the bottom of the screen updates live as you make selections:

CountBadgeMeaning
< 50GreenFast — runs in under a minute
50–200YellowWill take a few minutes
200–500OrangeMay take 10+ minutes
500–1000RedLong run — consider narrowing
> 1000BlockedToo many — deselect some items
  1. Start with the slot you care about most — usually trinkets or rings
  2. Lock slots where you’re already wearing your best — don’t include items you know are worse
  3. Run gear-only first, then add gems/enchants for the top candidates
  4. Use the combination counter to stay under 200 for quick results
